As we’re approaching the three-quarter mark of the year, I have two 2020 journals to share with you.
My first 2020 Journal
My first 2020 journal is a green undated, narrow lined Castelli* notebook. I really like the Castelli notebooks and have used several of them now. I’ve mostly used random biros to write each night, but there is a section at the beginning of the year when I used a fountain pen and red ink.
I’ve used a consistent format each day:
- list of things I’m grateful for
- list of positives from the day
- free writing about anything that doesn’t fit in the above categories
My second 2020 journal
My second journal is an undated narrow ruled Wonder Woman Moleskin* notebook. This was a Christmas present from my in-laws and is the first Moleskin I’ve used. As well as having a great front cover, I really like the quote the on the back cover; a very relevant reminder to be kind during this year.
Keeps your hands extended to all in friendliness but never holding the gun of persecution and intolerance.
Wonder Woman
I’ve mostly used an old Parker fountain pen* and red Diamine ink* in this journal, although I used Uni-ball pen* on holiday.
I continued using the same structure as the first journal. Due to a recommendation on the Reboot Your Life course I’m now using:
- list of my achievements
- list of positives from the day
- list of things I’m grateful for
- free writing anything that doesn’t fit in the above categories
My Instagram journal
2020 will be remembered for the pandemic. I’m capturing memories through my usual writing, but wanted to do something visual as well. Although I’d love to create a scrapbook, I knew that was not manageable for me at the moment. So I chose to share a daily picture on Instagram; and to help with my mindset during lockdown I decided each one had to be positive.

This has been challenging both in terms of noticing positives every day and remembering to share them. Although, Instagram is not a platform I’ve used much in the past I’m grateful for the visual record I’m keeping. Perhaps I’ll create a photo book when life is back to normal.
Are you writing a 2020 journal? Do you have a standard structure? How are you recording the pandemic?
