Within an hour of meeting Millie I knew she liked singing and gymnastics; see the video below. By bedtime I’d been told she liked horse riding and ice skating, and most strangely that most of her friends have moustaches; when I questioned B further on this she said they were boys with stick on moustaches! This interest from B continued over the past week so I also know Millie enjoys playing on the climbing frame and looking at fish.
The dolls are aimed at pre-school girls and are described as being perfect for young children as their first doll, so as B starts school in two month I thought she may be too old for them. However, she has become attached to Millie. Every night she has made it on to the special space on B’s pillow (limited to her current favourite toys) plus she has gone to preschool as B’s Treasure two out of four days. Millie hasn’t ousted Teddy from the favourite spot, but she is certainly near the top of the pecking order. One week after her arrival B is still excited about showing her off to people.
The limitation I see in the dolls, particularly for girls at the top end of the target age, is the inability to change their clothes; one of the first things B tried to do. Of course, this maybe an advantage for younger children.
I asked B her opinion on Millie before she went to bed last night and she said the reasons she likes Millie are:
- the pink heart
- the pink trousers
- her eyes are like Rapunzel’s
- she’s soft and cuddly
- she has brown hair
- she has a ribbon in her hair
Other comments included “I like her because I like her” and “I like because she’s new”.
At £9.99 for each Little Us doll I think they would make a good gift for a two or three year old. My initial reaction was they are not ideal for a four year old, but B’s reaction over the last week suggests otherwise.
Hope you like my first video on this blog (and first video on You Tube), I just couldn’t resist.
