We are in the process of selling our house and have done several thing to improve the appearance
I came across this diary entry by Sir Hugh Casson on 29th April 1980 and it made me laugh as it is so appropriate to our situation
Letter today from a Friend of the [Royal] Academy:
‘Dear President, Are you chandeliers by any chance made of soup?
Yours sincerely, …
Stung, I go on to the landing and look. He’s right and we arrange to remove them for cleaning. Amazing for how long one can fail to notice sluttery in one’s own house. Usually it comes to the surface when you are trying to sell it. ‘Is this your living room,’ potential buyers ask incredulously as they gaze at the chipped paint, torn paper and book-laden window sills.
Our house looks so good when it is tidied for viewings that I’m keen we don’t end up with blinkered eyes once we move into our new house. So far the only method I’ve thought of is to pretend we are going to sell the house at least once a year and look at everything with fresh house and make a list to work through.
How do you reduce the ‘sluttery’ in your home?
