I was given the Blackberry on Friday so I was able to spend a fair bit of time over the weekend playing with it and I have to admit that so far I am impressed. I have a newer model than I have seen before and it has loads of features. The one I am most pleased with is the web browser which enables me to view real website and even view photographs in fair quality. I can also access email folders so if I continue (trying) to keep my inbox clear while I’m out and about, plus I can access my action folder which should help me to reduce my electronic to-read list. Another bonus is the GPS and sat nav, I don’t know whether I’ll ever use it, but it means I should be sorted if I do get lost!
So far I have left the settings as standard to find out what they are like, but I may investigate how to turn off the email alert flashing LED because colleagues have told me that is what distracts them the most. Plus if I do get addicted I have already discovered the settings to automatically turn the Blackberry off at the end of the work day and on again the following morning.
I’ve had a Palm for years, but this is the first time I’ve had something which is wireless connected and I would be interested in any advice you have which will ensure it is a productivity tool and not a distraction tool.

Sadly my Blackberry has become the first thing I pick up in the morning, i dont know whether I love it or hate it. I cannot get away from work at all now, and if I do I feel guilty. But it allows me to spend more time out of the office doing things like going to the bank, haircut etc without worrying about being at the office and means I can spend the weekends not having to do the mundane tasks but can actually enjoy them more.
London Tours,
Fortunately I am able to put my Blackberry down so I can still leave work behind, however my problem is that it contains my diary so I often carry it with me at weekends in case I need to reference it. Luckily I don’t get many emails at the weekend on it.
I agree, it is great that you can finish work in what was previously dead time.
