In our digital age, papers still manage to build up and in the past week I’ve made a start at reducing our paper clutter.
I’ve marked the post we’ve received for the previous owners of our house as ‘Not known at this address’ and returned them to the senders. We changed the name of the house soon after we moved in, so I’m intrigued how we are getting post for the previous owner with the new house name.
I’ve read and recycled several magazines. I subscribe to three magazines; Zest (monthly), In Style (monthly) and Money Week (weekly). That is six magazines a month, as well as catalogues and membership magazines such as National Trust. If I don’t keep on top of reading them it is very easy for them to become clutter as the contents become outdated. I’ve read four magazines in the last week and only received one, so the correct balance
In our big bedroom, I also found a DVD connected to the Google Screenwise project to investigate how families watch media. It sounded interesting so I agreed to take part until they rang me to confirm my details, this meant going through the whole 30 – 40 minute questionnaire again. I admit I was probably a bit grumpy because I think it was the children’s meal time, but really what is the point of asking for them on the doorstep if it is necessary to go through them all again? Anyway, I don’t know why I kept the DVD. I also found a free toy B got free on a magazine that I threw away while she wasn’t looking.
Oh I feel your pain. It seems that every time I clear a backlog of flyers, magazines and scrap paper that a whole new pile magically appears from nowhere. The crafty side of me needs to find something to with them instead of throwing them in the recycling!
I know! I’ve made a small dent in the pile. Sometimes I give magazines to B to cut up, but then I have to clear up lots of little pieces.
I have a mound of shreading to do – keep hoping it will do itself!
Shredding, I agree with you, it was particularly difficult when I had to climb under a table to access the shredder. That was not going to happen often!
