I won a competition in March with my post I’m scared of the cloud and I’m currently waiting for the arrival of my new tablet. When it arrives there is likely to be long discussions about who gets my old one; my husband or my 2 year old who appears to be much more interested them! I recently joined Instagram because I got tired of trying to upload pictures to using the Twitter app on my phone. I love the hints of what we got up to last month, so I’m sharing some of my favourites.
Although I wrote more posts in March, unfortunately none of them were popular enough to make it in to my top 5 most popular posts, which are the usual contenders. However on the positives, I move up to number 85 in the Hibs 100 chart and moved up slightly in the Tots 100 chart so I’m making improvements somewhere.
Don’t forget my survey, I’m going to close it soon and currently the most popular options are more scrapbooking and opinion posts. Quite a contrast to my last survey five years ago when goal identification and achievement was the most popular. How things change after having children!

So altogether a pretty good month with all numbers increasing and I’m going to try to write posts that do well in Google so I can see some new posts in my top 5. Do you have any tips?
How was March on your blog? How do you include Instagram in your blog?

Well done on moving up the charts 🙂 I’m so new to blogging so still getting to grips with how to get my blog noticed, getting there!xx
Thank you Hannah. My blog has been around for years and I’m still working on how to get it noticed. Communicating with other people seems to help a lot, either by commenting on their posts or using social media.
Well done on winning the tablet. I’m new to instagram, I have a link to it on my about page but that’s it, I don’t really conect blog post to it. Maybe as it grows I may, but it takes long enough with the others, I will have to keep an eye on it.
I agree, it should be about making things as quick as possible and adding those images to this post was not quick. However, I do like how they look so maybe it will be quicker next month, and if it isn’t perhaps I’ll stop.
What an awesome win – my best win was a piano a couple of years ago. 🙂 As for stats I don’t pay any attention to them LOL x
Wow a piano, do you still have it? My kids would love me to win one of those as they both love ‘playing’ on other people’s when we visit. I love numbers so I can’t help myself with the stats, it is probably better not to notice them.
Lots of great numbers. Your blog is doing well. I also have a nearly 2 year old that loves my tablet!
I use Instagram a lot now for reviews as well as hashtags #
X
I don’t think I’ve used any hashtags on Instagram, unless I wanted one to appear on Twitter. What hashtags do you use? My son already thinks my tablet is his so I don’t think my husband will get a chance 🙂
What a fabulous win:) Thanks for sharing your stats, I am at about the same level as you, and always negatively comparing myself – a complete waste of time to do so!! I should be valuing where I am at!!!!
Definitely value where you are. I collate my stats so I can see how I’ve improved during the month, I don’t compare myself to other people because I don’t understand how you can get over 1000 followers on Twitter, or 2000, or 3000 so I can’t start working towards it. My current goal is 600 followers on Twitter which isn’t too far away. I’m concentrating on Google+ at the moment, but not seeing many results from it.
I joined a google + link party which has really helped, http://www.mommyiscoocoo.com/2014/04/google-link-party-grow-your-cirlces.html
Link you google + profile to the link party on a wednesday, and link a blog post onto your google + profile. Amanda who runs has produced a list, so I followed everyone on google +, about half followed me back:) PLus I have joined a few communities, so for me an upcycling one is great exposure:)
Thank you for the tip, I will look out for the google+ link party next week. I’ve recently joined the GooglePlusHopscotch which was my first link party.
That’s definitely a fab win- Congratulations!
I like instagram but tend not to use it with my blog, more, like you’ve said, as a quicker route to publishing, than twitter.
Well done on your stats! Your most visited posts definitely make sense, think my most visited posts are really random- and have no idea why!
Thank you, I’m looking forward to it arriving. My most visited posts are generally from 2007 and get lots of hits because they are high in Google for relevant search terms. I don’t seem to have much success getting more recent posts performing as well in Google… but I will
It’s interesting to look at stats, and I do keep an eye on mine. I’ve found that the best way to grow is to be active; commenting, sharing, retweeting; but that is hard work! I have started using Instagram and Pinterest more and I have links to them in my ‘connect with me here’. I’m getting more into G+, but still getting the hang of that. I’m trying very hard to just enjoy it all, and not get too concerned about the stats though 🙂
Yes stats can be interesting but also a distraction. I enjoy using Twitter, but I’m trying harder with G+ as well because I think I’ll enjoy it if I can just get it to click.
Congratulations Kate! I am sure Ed won’t get a look in when the new tablet arrives. I have just got back onto Instagram and I prefer it to Facebook for sharing photos.
Thank you Kirsten. No sign of the tablet arriving yet, but still excited. I’m also enjoying Instagram much more than I expected.
I don’t usually check my stats but I thought it would be interesting to see how I’ve been doing this year. I usually blog most days of the week but we moved house in February and I’ve had weeks where I’ve not blogged at all because I’ve been too busy and my blog stats plummeted. I had my highest stats ever in December last year and January this year then my lowest in February and March. Things have started calming down with the house move now, just the new boiler and new kitchen left to do so hopefully I’ll be able to get back to blogging and get those stats back up! I don’t really use Instagram for my blog, just have the link to it on the side that shows my latest photos (I forget about Instagram I have to admit so I don’t use it very often!). I built my twitter followers up by following people on the emails twitter sends that recommend people like the ones I already follow. I also always follow back when people follow me 🙂
I understand the impact of moving house. We moved in February 2013 and didn’t have internet for 8 weeks 😮 I hope you get everything sorted in the new house soon.
I think your finding that your visitors reduced when your posting frequency did is the normal expectations, however when I did a long term review of my blog I found that my visitors reduced when I increased my posting and I still haven’t got back to the higher level.
I have no tips, its often unexpected things that I get the most traffic from, and then something I am proud of can sink without a trace! I am no help at all really, any success I do have is through luck not judgement! Seems to me you are doing pretty well without advice from donuts like me anyway! 🙂
I agree what takes people’s interest is unexpected and I’m with you about luck. I get a lot of traffic through google to some very old posts and I think that maybe because I wrote them before lots of other people rather than they are better posts.
woot, it is me!
the most comments… haha
I’ve made the survey already… and well done on moving up in charts 😉
Yes thank you. I like to return a bit of love by recognising who has commented on my site and you can see the running total each month in the right hand column 🙂
